Possible. But I'm only going to do it if lots of other people think it is
a good idea.

You have two ways of sorting messages into threads. Either by Subject, or
by Reference.

Sorting into threads by Reference relies on the message sender(s) putting
correct "References" or "In-Reply-To" headers in their messages. Although
this is the "correct" way to thread, it is not particularly good, because
there are quite a few people out there using newsreaders that don't do
this correctly. And there are also quite a few who press the wrong key,
and start a new thread when they really meant to contribute to an existing
one.

Cppnews therefore also offers threading by Subject. This is selected from
the Options menu - just turn OFF the tick next to "Thread by Reference".
This method tries to link together all articles with the same subject. It
uses a "fuzzy matching" process which attempts to cope with the vaguaries
of Usenet postings. It strips of "Re:" from the start, ignores case
distinctions, copes with truncated subjects, and ignores some other
differences. It is not perfect, but it is usually pretty good.
