Hmmm, I was trying to find something, but I filed it. :(

It was a fix someone else was given, AFAICR to do with V90 modems
connecting to ISPs kit which was k56 only, from which it appeared that
*your* modem sends the first V8 tone and you could delay this by
placing one or more commas (pauses) after the phone number to give the
modems time to start negotiating before it was issued.

I'm *still* wondering if your modem was flashed/upgraded correctly. I
went straight from V34+ to V90 so I don't know how different a k56
negotiation sounds.

OTOH I suppose there could be some telco problem which delays bringing
your line up immediately the modem opens it.
