While we're on the subject of D/FW's best [your favorite food here]....

I have been seeking the best chicken-fried steak in Dallas/Fort Worth for
quite a while (since I moved here two years ago). Any nominations?

BTW, unlike ribeyes and T-bones, value is a prime consideration for a
chicken-fried steak. This is an entirely different genre. Ideal
atmosphere may well be the worst dive in town.

I have not found an outstanding CFS in Dallas; Hoffbrau on Central in Plano
is the best I have found. They use a good piece of meat, pretty large, have
good home fries, and it's $4.95 at lunch, I think ($6.95 ? at dinner).

Massey's in Ft. Worth has a better one; it ranks up there with the classic
cafeteria/diner/small-town-retaurant CFS. I don't know what it costs and
I can't remember exactly where it is...somewhere just off 8th Av. (which
turns in Cleburne which turns into McCart as you go south).

The Rig.

For lunch its 3.50 with Salad Bar & Potato (baked, fries, (rice?)) & rolls.
For Dinner its either the same or slightly more.
The Atmosphere is tables in a western looking room (coarse wood walls etc)
Location: Arlington on Division less than 1/2 mile East of Collins on the South side of the street. The sign resembles.

2 tall black poles with a sign about 1/2 way up.
There is also a location in Dallas but I've never been to it.
Oh, BTW thw Chicken Fired steak is very good. Finely ground beef giving it a very good texture + lots of good cream gravy.

Two favorites:

The Wild Onion, Azle, TX (northwest of FW), traditional CFS, but the best I've had in years.

The Ranchman's Cafe, Ponder, TX (west of Denton), CF roundsteak (not pounded), as Mae West once said, "Too much of a good thing is wonderful!"
