I think some of you are probably missing the point. If you are a
high-volume line subscriber (re: buy a lot of phone lines), then
instead of running hundreds (or even thousands) of pairs of copper
into a customer location, they run Fiber (or T1's) into a "slick"
that breaks everything down into normal analog phone lines. I can't
vouch for the speed capability of a specific slick, but unless they
purchased there own slicks they didn't have any say in what was
installed at there location.

As per BellAtl (and most general phone specs) they are only obligated
to supply you with 300-3000 hz of audio response. If you look at this
it breaks down to about 2700 hz of audio bandpass. As per the V.34
specification, you need 3200 hz of available bandwidth, and even at
26.4K you need 3000 hz. Needless to say BellAtl does NOT have to
provide you with this good of a line. If you are lucky and get that
much than be happy, but unlike the 14.4K days, the new 28.8K (and even
more so on the 33.6K) won't always connect at 28.8K. Personally from
my house I have rarely even seen a 28.8K connect, and generally if
I did get that fast a connection it dropped back quickly.
