I suspect that the Internet has been used and is being used to spread
false statements about me. If you see any news messages that make any
statements about me, please forward a copy of the message to me, or let me
know where to find it. I think I have the right to know..

For the last two years, I have been subjected to constant harassment due
to slander. My reputation and my life have been destroyed. Please help me
put an end to the slander.

Hey Ken, I too was afflicted by this problem till I started wrapping tin
foil around my head. Reynolds extra thick works best, just make sure you
leave holes for breathing and seeing.

My co-workers look at me funny (except Bonnie, who likes to apply makeup
while looking at the back of my head), but it works pretty good so I can
usually disregard their remarks.

Oops, too late. Bow, wow.

First, you have to have a reputation in order to have it destroyed. I
doubt that anyone knows who you are. Maybe you're a legend in your own
mind, but I doubt you're a legend on the Internet. Sorry to be the first
to bring you this news.

Mr. Wong:

A "dk@crl.com" has been going around saying that no one knows who you are!
Sounds actionable at law to me. Is this the kind of thing you're looking
for?

[this is a good discussion, but we should move this out of general]

Sorry, Mr. Kaye, but you may be the one being naive. You don't have
to be well-known to have problems because of this type of garbage.
Several years back, as an undergrad, a hack here managed to break into
several people's accounts, including mine, and sent rude and insulting
messages from them. One guy I knew asked me what was up with the
insults I was sending. I didn't know what he was talking about and
didn't think about a security problem. It wasn't until a couple of
years later that I ran into someone else who told me several people he
knew (whom I didn't know) never really found out about the break-in
but thought I was a jerk because they had gotten ugly messages.

I don't know what other people think, but I consider myself someone
who intends to have a career on these machines, a "computing
professional" if you will. As such, I spend more time on the net than
most of the population (even most tech. professionals), and I expect
my colleagues and associates in my field to do the same.
Consequently, if I want a higher "hit ratio" for topics I want to
discuss with others, I go to net instead of U.S. mail or the
telephone. So, for me, my net.personality is a non-trivial part of my
reputation since it's highly likely many people I have to deal with
are here.

This is a joke, right?

I have found that the commercial heavy foil that is gold in color
on one side is best for keeping out the harmful Xanthaxian beans and
rays. The amazing thing is that of you keep the gold on the outside,
you'll receive the radio signals from Trantor.
