income, you can't beat neurosurgery...

It's the only specialty where making 1/2 million really involves just
being competent and doing your job (albeit with many hrs per day
logged) but all surgeons work fairly hard. In other specialties, you
could work hard but you might top out at $400K. The caveat here is that
you're a workaholic and that you have the "hands" to be a surgeon. I'm
not one who's convinced that surgeons are any smarter than a nuclear
engineer or physicist.
