My late uncle, an MD surgeon (who was head of a large hospital), told
me once: To become a good scientist, the aspirant has to resemble an
isosceles triangle with its base side up. To become a doctor, one has
to resemble an isosceles triangle with its base side down. In other
words, it is not smartness which is required from the doctor wanna-be
to succeed, it is the persistence of approach and diligence in learning
the art.

By the way, I think I have long thought that I have a manual dexterity
which is required to be a surgeon.I felt unhappy in scientific
positions (especially in numerical modeller positions) beacuse they did
not utilize my capability to do work with hands. It was in the second
half of my PhD candidacy when last time I contemplaited of changing the
occupation to a surgeon/doctor. I was always stopped by the
incapability to pay for studies. In the past several years, I do not
even recall about my former desire to be a surgeon, because it is too
late for me. As Art Sowers said, it is best to concentrate on doing a
job, any job, which pays bills, and save some money to do hobby in the
private time.
