One of the many things we have in common with the rest of the country is a failing education system. It sounds to me like Parizeau has made a fair assessment of the problem, and stated it in a candid way that is rarely heard by politicians in the other provinces. >Parizeau: >"Regional development policies gave rise to the hope that Quebec's regions >would become less dependent on natural resources, which were often too >quickly depleted, and better able to stem the RURAL EXODUS that had drained >them. The regions would be resurrected, it seemed, but it was not long >before disenchantment set in. Young people continued to leave, and unease >became increasingly widespread." >______________ >(Karen): It couldn't have anything to do with the QUEBEC GOVERNMENT'S >administration of their natural resources and as a result "young peoples' >disenchantment" could it? >And no mention that these 'disenchanted young people' fled right out of the >province to the 'rest of Canada'. >______________ The RURAL EXODUS is something the entire western world is experiencing. Are you suggesting that the Quebec government has done something to exacerbate the problem? If so, what? How have other provincial governments handled the issue better? What is the objective of a post such as this? What are you actually trying to say? Kevin Germann (kgermann@shl.com)
