Netcom advertises that it is a nationwide server,it has large corporate
accounts and has tech support........well this is my experience with
Netcom in the past three months:

In the past three months I have had:
48 GPF's
51 Unexpected Loss of Controls
18 Nites of being unable to send e-mail
2 occassions when my messages were erased
38 occassions when IRC was cancelled
18 tries, the maximum, to get connected
11 letters to Tech support unanswered
2 days of not being told that my POP phone number had changed hence I
couldn;t sign on.
2 days of no service....and assorted other headaches I can;'t
remember...oh yes....it took me almost 2 hours to downlaod Netscape
with a 14.4 modem..not the fastest but not that shabby either.

And they have the audacitiy to still charge for what they call service.
By the way.....I quit tonite....go ahead somebody out there...call me a
whiner and I call you an idiot.

Um...the only problem I've experienced over the last 3 or 4 weeks is
occasionally having to re-dial to connect.

Maybe it might be wise for you to find a different provider.

no you're not a whiner.
Make sure you stop payment on your credit card because they are notorious
for forgetting to stop billing people. Make sure you also send them certified
mail telling them you're no longer paying them and why, and send another copy
to yourself for documentation.

They are a bunch of idiots. My dog could run an ISP better than Netcom could.

Go with a local ISP.

Those are due to that crappy mickeysoft app that you are running.

At a guess Al I would say his phone connection is the root of most of his
problems. Combined with the likelihood he is using the bug infested
Netluser software.

2 hours to download Netscape with a 14.4 modem gives an indication that
either he has something misconfigured with his modem or a real noisy
line. Noisy lines are prone to disconnections.

Abrubt disconnections cause problems for many computers. Combined with
the somewhat unstable Netcruiser interface he is practically gauranteed
thiings like GPF's and Loss of Control errors. A topic discussed
frequently in the netcrusier groups. Its such a prevalent problem that
even Netcom is reccomending people experienceing these problems to switch
to the "unsupported" Winsock apps.

A for his posts going missing; did he post spam, try to post to a
moderated group, or did he post innapropriately to a domain such as
christnet - where even Steve Winter now admits innapropriate or offensive
material can and will be deleted?

Or was he posting to invalid newsgroups like he did in this thread. 4
invalid newsgroups in the newsgroups line. And one of these was most
likely the moderated netcom.announce just misspelled.

Two days lack of service. Netcom was down for two days this month due to
the weather in CA. And was down several times over the past three months
for upgrades - all of which was mentioned in the motd.

No apologizing there Al. Just reality.

I'm a disgruntled Netcom customer. I had nothing but problems. Their
modems would die at least once per week, and I had to make a
long-distance call to California and sit on hold for 5 minutes to tell
them about the problem. And then there were the times that my mail
messages weren't sent. PITA!

If you're in northern/central NJ, check out Eclipse at

their equipment is very fast. And the person answering the phone is
usually the president of the company!

Why Al, you know I've never had occasion to apologize about netcom. I've
always found them to be a very good ISP. Nothing to apologize for, unless
it's letting you run loose on the 'net. But then that's one of the things
I like best about netcom. They wouldn't think of restricting anyone's
access to the 'net, not even an embarrassment like you. Now go take your
thorazine like a good Silvernut.

Well frank or Honus or whatever your name is, you appear to be one of
those particular useless bits of garbage that thinks the world owes them a
handholding. Netcom is an ISP not a baby setter. If you would learn
something about your computer and it's connection to the telephone lines
90% of your problems would go away.

You have seen fit to leave Netcom, and that is your right. It's your
nickel, spend it any way you want. But in leaving you have tried to be as
obnoxious as possible. You have shown yourself to have all the vile
qualities of a really bad smell. You have randomly attacked anyone in
sight and have done your best to pick a fight with the entire Netcom user
base. The fact that the only support you could pick up is from our
resident official net-kook Al (the silvernut) Silverman should be an
indication of what a looser you are. As for your 10 to 1 e-mail, 10 to 1
of 0 is still 0. Now I won't offer to hold your hand but I would be
willing to use a long poll and shove you back down the sewer you slithered
out of.

Your leaving Netcom will be a cause for celebration for us all. We will
no longer face the very real possibility of being embarrassed by you doing
something really stupid using a Netcom address.

: Sorry but over 240,000 individuals do not agree that "Netcom is the
: worst". It is only the whiners who cannot understand their own
: computers that are saying that. You know the people who have trouble
: dialing the operator on the telephone.... ;^)

: As a matter of fact "Netcom is the BEST ISP in the USA".

This is fairly typical of the responses that Netcom offers to
recurring problems ie. blame the user or pretend that that the problem
does not exist.
When I sent several complaints to netcom about continuing lockup
problems(where the system fails to respond to any command) I finally
received a detailed reply listing numerous reasons for this happening all
but one of which attempted to fault the customer.
My main complaint with netcom is not the problems but the company
policy which seems to be one of ignoring a problem in the hope that it
will go away.
                                        George
P.S. the number that you give means nothing. If we were to use customer
counts as a standard then we would all be using AOL.

: It was your fault. You were most likely attempting to use the Netluser
: interface instead of the alternitive apps.

Nice try,but I have a shell account and the lockup is a continuing
Netcom problem.

Netcom Tech support does say this. Did you read the line above that?? It
states that you may (read will) get charged a long dist charge for this
call.
