Hey, A few days after I eventually found LEP had had my T3000 in their bonded warehouse in Toronto for months, a letter showed up at the address that was on the shipment, saying about the same thing. > thanks for the notification! That's one of the things that clued me in, that and all the letters Telebit kept sending with different invoices saying different things, including ones asking me to pay them more money (wrongly), and letters saying they hoped I was enjoying my T3000, and one with my free PEP upgrade offer. > They checked, and they told me they shipped them via "Profit". I did call Telebit support on Friday, and ended up leaving voice-mail. They called back yesterday, and agreed that our modem was one of the ones that would only require a chip upgrade to become a Worldblazer (serial number above 302170000), and that if things checked out, they would call me back (within 1/2 hour) to confirm and put a package in the mail. I hope they did the latter, as they did not do the former. UPDATE! -- :-( :-( :-( Another person called back from Telebit this AM, saying she had talked to the person who called me on Monday. She wanted to confirm that indeed someone from Telebit had called to let me know about Profit Freight, and then fed me the line that [paraphrased] "No, we won't be sending you a chip upgrade set, and yes, you should still expect a call from Profit Freight sometime, and they may decide to send you the chip upgrade after they ask you for your serial number." Needless to say, I'm confused and frustrated now! When I expressed my frustration, saying that I knew of several other local people who had already received their upgrade chip-set packages, she said "Sorry, but I'm only instructed to call and inform you of the Profit Freight arrangements." I didn't remind her that the first call was June 25, and that the original promise was that Profit Freight would call the week of July 6. Now, if only there were some other modem maker who had a nice low price/perf. value, lots of features, and most important, UUCP 'g' (and other) protocol spoofing. Are you listening ZyXEL? Why aren't the Telebit distributors (esp. in Canada) yelling and screaming at Telebit to get the official right to do these upgrades/swaps? Such a move would impress me for one, and I expect would be well worth the cost to improve customer relations! -- Greg A. Not great for those of us who really don't want to waste a good chunk of any day driving _into_ downtown Toronto for almost the same reasons why we don't like to frequent the airport in that "other" city on the map. It's still a lot better than letting LEP hold our modems hostage with unknown ransom terms. Since Jim's in Toronto, perhaps we can all give him our T3000s to swap? 1/2 :-) I don't know what that'll do for people who aren't even in Ontario though! >he also said you could call 1-800-telebit and speak to sales if you want >to check your shipment out. Good Plan! Newsflash...ok I have Telebit on the phone right now.... The lady I'm speaking to tells me that they shipped them all to "the Canadian distributor" last Thursday, ... no... the "distributor" is still Profit, which still means LEP! Oh, but Profit is a shipping company and their Canadian affiliate is LEP, which isn't a distributor at all... hmmm. ....on hold....waiting for a person who knows what's really happening (we hope).... Ah, next person... Yes, the modems where shipped to Profit (presumably in the U.S.) last week. We (Canadian consignees) are supposed to be getting the proverbial "phone call" from them RSN. She was an extremely congenial person to talk to on this matter, and will again express my concerns, and apparantly numerous others to their management. Telebit wants to do everything necessary to ensure that we all get our WorldBlazers with no aggravation. The T3000/WB swap is still supposed to happen at our respective doors with no additional costs in time or money for us to bear. I'm to call her back next Friday if I don't get the LEP phone call. I expect I'll be talking to her in a week. -- Ed. A. Hew, <edhew@xenitec.on.ca> ....!uunet.ca!xenitec!eah XeniTec Consulting Services, Kitchener ON, Canada +1 519 570 9848
