(double posted to ott.config/can.legal and to ncf.board.speakers-corner
and addressed to the NCF Board of Directors)

As a member of National Capital Freenet I would like to find out
if my BOD supports or is even aware of what ONAG (Ottawa News
Administrators Group) is currently doing.

As the article attached below outlines, ONAG has been removing
ALL postings from ANY 'ott' newsgroup on ANY news server which
have been posted by one certain individual.

Apparently this individual, Louise Marchand, has managed to
antagonize a large number of people participating in
'ott.general' discussions. 'ott.general' is a newsgroup carried
by most ISP's operating in Ottawa and some outside of Ottawa.

As far as I can determine, Ms. Marchand has not broken any
Canadian laws or any 'ott.*' charter rules for that matter.
She did not post hate literature. From what I can tell (I
have only read a couple of articles posted by her), all she
has done is annoy many of the people who cannot resist
reading and responding to her posts.

Since many complained, ONAG decided to cancel all messages
posted by Ms. Marchand to any 'ott.*' newsgroups.

This is a very dangerous precedent.

There are many annoying people posting on the internet.
Complaints regarding such individuals are traditionally
handled by their ISP. A third party canceling all articles
posted by a particular individual at any ISP, is a totally
different matter.

Since NCF has a seat on ONAG, I wonder if the NCF BOD voted
in support of canceling all messages posted by Louise Marchand.

FWIW, I agree completely with your position as outlined. I feel that this
UDP is clearly out of line, and represents an unfortunate over-reaction.

The problem as I see it has been that Louise rolled into ott.general with no intention of any kind at having a
discussion on anything. Her entire intent was to disrupt the group by posting trash that could easily be discredited,
and much of it was questioned which resulted in nothing flames and man-hating spouts. She is a self-admitted sexist and
man hater. She has on many occasions even relied to posts that had nothing to do with her and called the poster names
simply because he was a man, and asked about why she would then go off and flame the hell out of you.

Posting to newsgroups is not a constitutional right, it's not a right granted by the UN Human Rights folks, it's a
privilege. Established netiqutte does suggest that you shouldn't act like a complete idiot for your entire time in
Usenet, but alas this is how Louise has acted. I do have to say she is not alone. I myself am guilty of poking the
bear as well, but it was generally in response to a hostile response.

The point is, if you want to act like an idiot there is no place for you in more normal groups like ott.general, there
are plenty of alt.* groups out there that more then welcome this sort of flaming behavour, in ott.general it's not at
all welcome. As I said she isn't alone, which also suggests there are plenty of people that continue to poke and push
looking for a rise, these people too should really consider moving on.

If on the other hand Louise (and the others) are willing to have civilized discussions where people are expected to ask
such things as where did you get that info, provide URLs, ISBNs for books, etc, etc. To date this has been a problem.

Just my 2p worth (Sorry we don't have any cents in the UK :) )

that's right, i originally came in to sell goods ...........i was attacked
ferociously and decided to stand my ground.........since then i have decided
to write a book on newsgroups so i have participated in the group and
collected tons of data.................i am not usually the one to provoke
or insult.............its usually the other way around

Her entire intent was to disrupt the group by posting trash that could
easily be discredited,

that is not true...........i post bona academic feminist writings 90% of the
time, the rest is media clips and usually on poverty or some other womyn
issues

> and much of it was questioned which resulted in nothing flames and
man-hating spouts.

it was rejected because the group hates feminists and anything feminists
write

She is a self-admitted sexist and
> man hater.

i am not sexist and i dont hate men.........i feel sorry but most of you,
but i dont hate u

She has on many occasions even relied to posts that had nothing to do with
her and called the poster names
> simply because he was a man, and asked about why she would then go off and

when sexist material is written it is usually men that are posting, so its
not a BIG stretch to assume such things even when wrong occasionally, i have
been more right than wrong

> Posting to newsgroups is not a constitutional right, it's not a right

prove it please
