Dear Hans:
On January 21, you posted an article concerning Elgin Computers in which you
called for moderation and mediation. In response, I immediately endorsed this
call, and askted that you use the good offices of the Canadian Ethical
Computer Services Association to resolve this issue. Today you posted this
answer:
>Although I'm vice-chair with CECSA, I would have to bring this issue up
>in our meeting. Which I will do.
>Whether or not the association wishes to become part of this dispute, I
>do not know. If not, I will make myself available as mediator if it is
>acceptable by all parties. please understand, mediation is not a matter
>of peace camps or belligerance. It is a way of finding common ground to
>resolve a dispute.
>We have a CECSA meeting on Thu. nite. On Friday I can inform you of our
>decision. As I said, I cannot give an ironclad guarantee about the
>response.
My comments are as follows:
(1) I thank you for your efforts and fully endorse the two paths you
suggested; I will accept either one.
(2) I note that Elgin Computers and their many, vocal supporters have suddenly
fallen silent. Specifically, faced with the possibility of airing the
disputes, they have implicitly declined to accept. Somehow, I am not
surprised.
(3) To spare yourself futile efforts, perhaps you can contact EC in an attempt
to secure their consent first; alas, it takes two to tango.
(4) Let the public in general and potential customers of EC in particular
judge the spirit in which EC operates.
Thanks again for your efforts. Good luck to us all.
JAN
