As a long term but not-high-usage Ozemailer it was reasonable to highlight hardware and performance problems in an appropriate in-house newsgroup. The contracted consultant's response (to *part* of the problem identified) was useful but so far any feedback on plans to address the actual subject matter [DISCONNECTIONS] remains outstanding. I do not mind taking heat if it means consumers generally will benefit. That applies to any consumer product, not just et access. It was another user who crossposted, don't forget. I post herein an example of the sort of correspondence I have been getting from other users. Almost all who have written requested anonymity. This is just the latest of many comments from Ozemail users : "Quote : Subject: Results on ISP's/Configs. Date: Mon, 21 Sep 1998 22:01:33 +1000 From: <snip by request> To: Steve Small <ssmall@interact.net.au> <snip salutation> Here are the results: For all cases NASA JPL Mars Pathfinder Page Downloaded. Caches cleared & trash emptied after each test. Oz Megasaver (proxy enabled)= 3 min and only 15% downloaded - GAVE UP! Oz Megasaver (no proxy)= 1 min 26 secs Oz Casual (proxy enabled)= 29 secs Oz Casual (no proxy)= 27 secs Interact (proxy of course) = 23 secs. Pls feel free to publish these, but please do not mention my name. <snip personal stuff> Kindest rgds, End Quote" Frosty, I have many more productive ways to spend what little free time I have than to spend time on this. Internet access is just a business agreement and as InterACT proves every single day of the week, so very professionally, there is absolutely no need at all for 'net access to be such a god-damn hassle. Ozemail and many other ISP's would all do well to take some lessons from Craig Gibson and his excellent staff. rgds, -- Steve Small, Canberra, A.C.T.
