I am still (obsessionally) trying to soft out my DEST PC Scan 3000
interface problem. This scanner runs off a quasi-SCSI card which is
not however true SCSI as you can not substitute a normal SCSI card
for the one provided. I have gone to great length to ry and sort
this problem out. I now have two interface cars which are apparently
OK. I have ben told that the scanner passes its factory self-test.
Symptoms are:
1) With the cable attached, but the card not in a PC, the
yellow light on the front flashes indicative of a hardware
fault.
2) If the terminating plug is removed, with card in
the PC the light still flashes.
3) If the terminator is ON and plugged into the PC, the lights
behave normally.
4) On booting up, if the DMA, IRQ and I/O are specified
for the scanner, the PC hangs on executing that bit of
code in the CONFIG.SYS.
I suspect something wrong in the SCSI interface inside the scanner.
The only PCB inside the scanner is a removable 8 x 3" board which
sits behind the interface sockets.
I'd like to sort this out, but hear that the last hope of support
from DEST in the states is now going as the chap with that remit
is moving from the company which supports old DEST equipment.
So, has anyone got an old DEST 3000 which they can spare the PCB
from, or suggest what I need to do to get this one working again?
