What should be his steps? Karl Popper in "The Logic of Scientific Discovery" and other books gives a good account of scientific reasoning. http://www.eeng.dcu.ie/~tkpw/ ; http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/popper/ Scientists may go through their career without really understanding the "scientific method". In mathematics it is possible to prove theories and theorems. In fields like physics you can get evidence that supports a theory but a single result my prove it wrong. gtoomey
