I am looking for a fluorescent vital stain to assess bacterial viability in the FACS. Fluorescene Diacetate (FDA), which fluoresces when the fluorescein is released by the action of nonspecfic bacterial esterases in live cells, is one possiblity, but is the wrong colour. Does anyone know if, for example, rhodamine or texas red diacetate, or some other colour is available? Or if there is another dye system around which gives a colour that could be measured in something other than the FITC channel? Many thanks! Brian Robertson -- Dr. Brian D. Robertson Dept. They have a large variety of fluorescent probes.
