Hi ,

I am asking for help for the following issue.
My family bought a Volvo 4 years ago and we have only
driven it about 29000 km (about 7000 km per yr).

Last Friday while my mother was driving it a bolt
pinning down the pulley for the oil pump was sheared off.
Then the pulley stripped the oil pump and the timing belt.
So the repair would be very costly since the pistons might
have been damaged.

The car had a 3 yrs warranty which was expired last year.
But it has to be a manufacturer's defect for the bolt to
shear off.
Those bolts are supposed to last "forever".

So how can I hold Volvo responsible for their defect?
Any suggestion will be very appreciated.
Please respond to my e-mail as well.

Thanks in advance.

I just got a call from the dealer that they would
ask Volvo to pick up the cost for the repair.
I appreciate their swift and fair response.

Volvo has always been a great company...that just proves it...

Yes. The response is pleasing but--to me at least--not at all
surprising. As a Volvo owner for a little over thirty-two years (still
driving the second one) this is the dealer quality I've become used to.
(In connection with a few smaller failures; fortunately nothing as
traumatic as Dan described.)

Saving my pennies for an 850 turbo wagon...

I got the same level of support from a Chev. dealer.
Nothing new here; don't fool yourselves...

Did they say they would fix it under warranty, or just that they would
ask Volvo to fix it under warranty? Will you be surprised by a bill
after it's repaired and Volvo says "Sorry?" Will they ask for a
"percentage" to be paid by you? Be nice to know for sure up front.
