Libs to block the super tax, market slide halted after news breaks about this. On 10 news in Perth tonight a ALP young couple who have always voted ALP said they lost $100,000+ due to Rudds super tax announcement and would never vote ALP again. Meanwhile another 25 miners met the PM and all have said they'll halt projects worth over $40b. I can see another backflip coming from the PM. The recent ones have been the ETS, bats, boat people and coming soon the biggest flip of them all the super tax. Just shows the Rudd government doesn't think before they act on anything. How to destroy Australia in one easy step. Someone is making money out of all this. If you look back to before any news of a super tax millions of shares were being sold left right and centre. Time the accc looked into all this. Really needs a royal commision into the Rudd stuff ups. Considering Rudd has thousands of comitte meetings worth squilions every year and takes no notice of anything and goes out on a limb all the time, no wonder the country is in such a mess. I've been a ALP voter, voted Libs when Howard came along foir the first few times but switched to Rudd like everyone else. My biggest mistake. Lesson leant. As many others are saying from traditional ALP voters. I know friends that work for the Greens and they are not happy that the Greens are backing Rudd. Greens not thought this through at all. Still they won't matter now, Libs can block it with those two IND's and my greatest wish would be they block supply and force an early election before its to late.

With Rudd's popularity numbers since becoming Labor leader, it's almost impossible to imagine he could mess up so badly as to lose the next election ... but he's certainly seems intent on making it a close contest ;-) To be fair, the recent drop in the polls is probably backlash by those who support the ETS ... but in reality, they still won't vote Coalition, so I don't think it's as bad for Labor as those numbers make out.

Interest rates have nothing to do with it. Mines will not close exept maybe one or two who will be taken over by others. Mines shares are already going up again. The simple fact is that mining companies scream blue murder and make all kinds of threads. It is still a profitable business and will continue. Of course, Mining companies have promised Abbott a lot of money for the election campaign. He is in the pockets of the super rich. > This "Superprofit tax" just sets up the sale of Australian mines to > China by our Peking Commo Prime Minister (or you think I'm wrong) Of course you are wrong. Rudd is so far on the right he is not even a socialist. As for the sale of Australian mines, why would the Chinese want to buy them if they are so bad that they don't make a profit? Oh the market went down this morning what did Rudd do, has the Liberals magic stopped working? Actually the drop has more to do with the European and American situation and the effect on the Dow and FTSE. Remember the leading mining stocks have been dropping in Aus for the last couple of weeks
