I'm surprised that 13% admit to buying because of ads. I try never to
buy when an item is spammed.

It's one thing to make decisions from newspaper ads & when purposely
visiting on-line sites, but TV advertising & spamming are definite
deterrents.

"Forrester also notes that ad avoidance is becoming more common on
television. Today, 15% of consumers acknowledge using their digital video
recorders to skip ads, "

That's odd, I wonder what the other 85% of consumers are using their DVRs
for? :) -Dave

You are assuming that 100% of all consumers own DVRs - not a good
assumption.

It's a poorly worded statement in the article, that's for sure.

What is the penetration rate for DVRs? Is it anywhere near where the VCR
rate topped out? And of the 97? % of households with TVs, what percentage
have any recording capability?

IOW, not everyone has DVRs.

Or poor understanding on your part. Personally, skipping commercials
is part of the reason I TiVo, but finding more interesting programs
out of the thousands of hours that are available is at least as
important to me.

and how many simply leave the room (think toilet break) when simply
watching TV and/or flipping channels when ads appear?

These days the bastards are so good at synchronizing their commercial
breaks that you're pretty much just flipping from commercial to
commercial.

But it's more like it was then than it ever was before.

People PAY for internet access and they expect the internet to then be
free of all ads once they begin to suf. Internet advertising is NEVER
welcome by the viewer.

I am suprised with the increase of internet ads in recent years since
consumers hate them so much.

Heh. Well, consumers are supposed to find pop-ups entertaining and
informative and diverting and... and... colorful and... blinking and...
well, you KNOW.

Chuckle. My local newspaper isn't satisfied with the text and display ads
printed in the paper. They overlay the front page headline with a stick-on
ad that you have to frikkin' Peel Off to read the headline. They also
charged a buck extra for the Thanksgiving Day paper, which had no extra
content, just extra ads. Lotta Damn Gall, and yes it is a Gannett paper.
