Oddly enough, I have such a beastie - I used to use an FX-80 (with the optional serial port) on my Mac Plus! Then I got an ImageWriter 15" because the Epson driver wasn't very good, actually. Depending on the model of Mac you have, the probable best solution for you would the the PowerPrint - a somewhat expensive kit which includes a smart serial-to-parallel (or USB-to-parallel for newer Macs) cable and a CD full of suitable drivers for literally thousands of printers. I forget who makes the PowerPrint these days, though. Hi Geoffrey;
I actually have a MacSE/30 and a Brother M-1109 printer. This printer
has a parrallel(?) and a serial port. It is setup to emulate an Epson
Fx-80+. So I think all I need is a cable (a mac to serial cable) and a
software driver.
Is a mac to serial cable the same as an imagewriter2 to Pc cable?

I'm a'wondering if that model was the one Brother made for use with most Appe computers. Do you have the book for it still? The reason I ask is that if you can get the Brother to emulate a C. Itoh 8510, then you can use the standard ImageWriter driver. (The original IW used the 8510 chassis, the IW2 used a Toshiba-built chassis, but based on C. Itoh firmware.) > Is a mac to serial cable the same as an imagewriter2 to Pc cable? Could be. There are two types of Mac 8-pin-to-25-pin cables out there, one has the TX and RX lines (pins 2 and 3 on the DB25) swapped over, one doesn't. The worst that will happen with the wrong one is that your printer will either sit there and do nothing, or start spouting gibberish as soon as it is turned on. Try it and see, you can't hurt anything (Mac or printer). Hi Geoffrey;
I just found the section in the manual where it mentions apple/mac.
The pin outs shows an example for Apple IIc and an example for a Mac.
M-1109 AppleIIc
FG (case) ----- case
SD (2) ----- 4
RD (3) ----- 2
DR (6) ----- 1
SG (7) ----- 3
DTR(20) ----- 5
M-1109 Mac
FG (1) ----- 8
SD (2) ----- 9
RD (3) ----- 5
SG (7) ----- 3
DTR(20) ----- 7
I discovered I have a Mac modem cable (mini din8 M to db25 M) and it
seems it does not work. The printer just sits there after being
switched on and setting the printer head.

Nope, the mac to serial cable is probably not a null modem cable (ie RS232 (DB25 plug) lines 2 and 3 are not transposed) Adrian. -- Dr A.P. Years ago I used this thing called an 'Icecable' (bought it by money order in Oz). It was a cable with a bit of hardware attached to it, that enabled the Mac to think that any PC dot matrix/bubble jet was an Imagewriter (you choose which PC printer from a series of DIP switches). One end plugged into the Apple printer port, the other into the PC printer. Simple plug 'n play solution, no software emulation involved. Maybe you could pick one of these up second hand somewhere? Hmm, either something is not set right on the printer, or the cable you are using is the one with pins 2 and 3 swapped over, which won't help.
