I just got off with a customer representative who told me yesterday
somebody will call me today. Nobody called. He say they have three day
stack of telephone numbers to call. In other word, they have good
business, but didn't want to spend money to expand their customer
service to provide better service.

I also believe that there is the defect on the line of the Micron
motherboard, and it won't go away by replacing the motherboard which I
haven't got. When our warrenty is out, the system will fail again, then
we have to pay 100s of dollar to replace our motherboard. Of course,
that is if you can make the customer service works for you.

I am demanding the full money back refund from the Micron because I do
not want its crafty sales, nor its unreliable computer, nor its
I-don't-give-a-damn customer service.

And at the same time, I trying to let the world knows what kind of
crafty business the Micron operates. I am trying to post all e-mails
like this one to the newgroups and PC Magazines and the customer service
of MICRON, and to contact Better Business Bereau. If you have any
another idea, please let me know.

I will keep you all informed. For the time being, you can start demand
the full money back refund for yourself.

Have a good day.

Most unlikely. The problem is probably somewhere in your setup or
software conflict.

I have the same motherboard in my P133 running Win 95 and WinNT Server
3.51 under very heavy load with no problems.

Do what you want. However, as a very satisfied Micron customer, I
strongly suspect that you are taking a shotgun approach by blaming
Micron for something in your particular setup, software conflicts, old
driver, or a particular component failure as opposed to a bad
motherboard.

Moreover, if there is a component failure, or even a particular
motherboard failure, thses are only machines, and sometimes machines
have problems. That does not make a company dishonest.

I've been working with microcomputers for fifteen years, and have
always found that EVERY major company such as Micron, Dell, Gateway,
etc. is proud of the equipment and will help the customer.

However, when a customer takes a vendetta approach, things
unquestionalbly go sour.

I have never had a problem getting a machine fixed from any major
manufacturer for clients. Either I lead a charmed life, or I'm doing
something different and/or better than you.

Now maybe I'm dreaming, but don't you think customer service reps
are taught that when someone in business (incl. consultants for
business customers) calls that they are to sit up and pay attention
and go the extra mile, compared to home customers?

I'm not saying they specifically discriminate against home users,
but business users have bigger budgets, more need of upgrades,
and generally buy more machines. If Micron truly has 3 days
worth of customers to call back, who's numbers are going to float
to the top of the pile? I also noticed you haven't worked
specifically with Micron for 15 years, but with a variety of
vendors...

btw, has anyone compiled a list of Micron MB #s that have gone
bad? It could just be a bad batch, not a bad design (like
they have a particular IC that dies after 5-6 months, and
that got onto 10,000 MBs or something). One of you on the
'crusade against Micron' might want to make one from all
the people you're in contact with -- heck somebody ask
Micron if they know what the problem is.

.......

Mike,

In my humble opinion, the variable isn't whether one is a business
person or not. It's a matter of interpersonal skills. There are
plenty of business people who score low on that count also.

Some tech reps can fail on interpersonal skills also, or may not have
as much experience as others in some areas. (All of us have different
degrees of experience.) In that event, I just seek out another tech
rep, instead of feeling cheated by the company.

I certainly don't deny that some people have problems with their
computers.

However, there are times when it just sounds to me like someone is
more interested in the thrill and attention of a public fight than
getting their computer fixed. I've seen that in every manufacturer's
newsgroup and Compuserve forum.

When somebody addresses a flaming complaint to any manufacturer's
forum or newsgroup, it is by definition one-sided. We really don't
know the history of what went on.

The one thing I do know for sure is about my own experience with
various manufacturers. I don't have a problem getting things fixed.

My two secrets:
--------------------
1. I talk to tech reps and customer service as I would want to be
talked to.

2. I clearly and unemotionally define the problem for them.

I completely agree with you Alan...

I understand the frustration of the, "my computer is down with no way of
fixing it without the help of customer-service" syndrome, but I also know
the flip side to the users nightmare. Having created a computer buisness
myself, I would have like to provide THE best product at THE best prices
with THE best customer service. Unfortunately, the harsh realities of such a
competitive climate is that you can't do all of them at the same time.
Unless you bought your system from one of the giant name-brand
corporations (and sometimes even if you did) you are going to have to wait
for service. Most spots only make a few points off of each sale and what
they really don't need is a customer to come barking at them as if they
aren't trying to satisfy. Give them a break, relax, and look at it with a
level-head. I promise you that you'll enjoy life a bit more
