I installed Redhat 5.0 (as a newbie) some days ago (no problems there). after fooling around a bit, I decided to make a fresh installation, in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY like I did before : the installation-set is on my 2nd harddrive (400 MB), (/dev/hdb1) I boot with the 2 installationdisk (boot-disk + supplemental) I create the necessar partitions on my first harddisk (1 GB) with Disk Druid (/dev/hda..) it formats the swap-partition without any problems, when asked, I give the path where the redhat-distribution is located (/redhat) and when he starts scanning the available packages, after a while he gives messages (corrupting the installation display) like : "install exited abnormally -- recieved signal 11" "sending termination signals ... done" "sending kill signals ... done" "unmounting filesystems ..." and so on ... any comments or a solution for my problem ?? thx, Lightningbit

Check out Red Hat's "Product Errata" in their support section of their
web site. It gives a way around this problem for those of us who
experienced it.

Hrmmm,.. Didn't think too much about this untill I decided to install RH5 on one of my boxes <hehe one of the Cyrix Ones> from a dos partition. (btw. rehat 4.2 works on an identical box) *Scanning /temp/rhimage/RedHat/RPMS for packages *failed to rpmReadPackageHeader index~1.rpm Ok.. seems like I've read about this before <yup> after going to the forementioned errata I pondered to myself, if I upgrade the gcc rpms what difference is it going to make I cannot get passed the boot&supp disks then a package scan. (btw. I did try subbing the gcc packs) Any comments/workarounds? Has anyone figured this out yet? I have somewhat the same problem and I have attempted install from hard disk, FTP, and NFS. I have tried this on multiple machines with the same results or unable to set PASV error. I have used numerous FTP servers all supporting PASV transfers including redhat's own site! I planned on aborting the install from redhat's ftp site if it started correctly but according to redhat's install disks they don't support PASV ftp either! Is redhat up to something? Are you purposely aggravated if you don't purchase their CD? PS. I saw nothing in the 5.0 errata about this, am I blind? Jess wrote in message <34AB5788.EC1388F9@deathsdoor.com>... >Hrmmm,.. I am having the same problem. I have tried to install from FTP and hard drive and end up with: install exited abnormally -- recieved signal 11 etc... I have remade the boot and supplimental disks 5 times now each with a fresh copy of boot.img and supp.img. If anyone can help me I would greatly appriciate it. Thanks, Jamie

This won't help you very much, but I had exactly the same problem while installing RH 4.2 (I'm not a newbie:-))) It seems to have something to do woth with corrupt file system or hard disk with bad sectors I'd like a solution too :-) grtx Rien Broekstra
