For once in my life i decided to do a not so nice thing. I placed a fake
ad in a singles site. I wrote down in the profile some basic stuff....made
him out to be nice, caring, intelligent, romantic and also put in a pic of
a very good looking guy.

I did this for many reasons, but mainly out of curiosity to see who would
be dumb enough to believe the ad was real. Within a few days, i started to
get many emails, some voicemail messages, mobile numbers, pics, offers of
sex...etc.....it was getting ridiculous!!! And the really sad thing was,
that every reply i got was based purely on the guys looks and nothing
more.

I finally confessed to one girl and told her the truth, mainly cos she
slighty suspected the whole thing was fake anyway (well done to her!). She
didnt seem too upset by it and we continued to talk. She told me in her
opinion, girls are "more attracted to somebody that can make them laugh,
respects them and their career and is kind and genuine"....i thought
yeah...what a load of BULLSHIT!
Now let me tell you, i dont consider myself to be very good looking but i
am NOT ugly either and i know that i am a really nice, caring and fun
person to be with...infact all the things she said girls are more
attracted to. So why is it that i cannot even get any girl to give me 1
sec of their attention. Why is it that when i smile, say hello and be
friendly.....they look at me like i dont exist(???)......
This whole dating and relationship thing is based purely on looks and
nothing more....women i have discovered are even more shallower than men
and what they really think and what they say is two completely different
things....and yet they play these little games because they know they can
get away with it and then whinge about how they never meet any nice men.
The only thing girls want is a good looking guy, with a big dick and a
bigger bank balance!

You know, I consider myself to be an above average attractive female. I have
the dubious honor of being known among my girlfriends for dating guys based
on their intelligence and personality instead of their looks,
reputation(length/width of penis or sexual prowness). When I form a
relationship, it is based on feelings of mutual respect and interest.

I'm sorry if you feel that girls are only interested in your looks, bank
balance, and penis. I have to wonder where you are meeting these "women".
Instead of creating fake ads to put in singles coloumns, why don't you
answer some ads and get to know someone who is probably as disenfranchised
with the dating scene as you seem to be?

Thats not true... Females like a sense of humour and they like all the
things that girl told you.. so you are obviously looking in the wrong spot
... try again..

I think what you did about the add was pretty low. Those girls who you call
stupid will be wondering whats wrong with them and why havent you answered
there mail, phone calls etc... and they wont trust the next male that comes
along. What you did was pretty low.

OK, that does it! I'm getting plastic surgery, buying a vacuum
pump and working two and a half jobs, even if it kills me. But
wait, that'll just mean one less competitor and one more woman
for a rich, good-looking, well-hung guy to boink...plus more
snickering in the basement of some mortuary as a necromaniac
geek Fed-Ex's my dong to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Dan, behold the wonders of ASL! You categorically prove something to
be true with your experiment, and immediately get 5 responses telling
you that it isn't true! And what do you know?? They are all from
women! Talk about tooting their own horns. Dan, when in ASL, never,
ever imply that women are not caring, loving, considerate,
compassionate, oh let's just take just one more step... perfect
people. Otherwise you'll go down in flames like a Boeing 737. You
might as well change your handle now, bro.

I am sure if you had written the exact same post with the sexes
reversed, you would have received no resistance.

But this is just a joke isn't it? Would be, if it wasn't so true.

Dan, I have a heart. So I realize you are not a bad guy and probably
are all those things that women claim to want. Yet, they don't see it
in you. They claim that's what they want but it's not. You proved
it. Just do whaever it takes to get into a relationship and get
married to the woman who's right for you, but ignore the lies.

Did you place real information about yourself and did you include your
pic in a (different) magazine before? How did the girls and women they
react to that ad?

I have to say, that I don't find myself goodlooking (red hair, 6 feet -
180 cm, 176 lbs - 80 kg, wear glasses, have a moustache, no beard, 33
years old) but I know that I am friendly - intelligent - have a sence
of humor and some women do appreciate that - but I am also High
Functioning Autistic. I seem to be very popular for 15 - 18 years old
girls, and many women look at me. I still don't find myself extremely
attractive. Apparently others find me that way.

I would describe myself as a shy nerd (because I fit well in the
description of a computer nerd).

I still think that that is not totally bullshit. I see women enough
with ugly guys: fat bold guys that smoke and drink way too much! I
wouldn't want to have a relationship with one of them, if I were I girl
or a woman.

And I don't like extremely attractive women. They are often arrogant
and pretty (not extremely beautiful) ones often test me out: "How would
he react when I look at him for minutes without any interruption?" I
feel that they are playing a stinking game, in which they want me to
walk into.

I don't know why that is... I think it is because women expect men to
take steps. And they seem to get angry if men behave different from
what women expect. I have had a lot of problems with girls because I am
autistic, and I react different from what they expect. Shy men seem to
be out of luck... :-(

I have a few questions because of my lack of knowledge of English
(English is my third language). What do you mean by:
- They get away with it (generally I have an idea what this sentence
means, but what does it mean in this context?)?
- They whinge about how they never meet any nice men?

> The only thing girls want is a good looking guy, with a big dick and a

The taste might different for each woman, but I have almost no positive
experiences with girls and women.

I'm not sure I even know what "the dating scene" *is* anymore. I'm 49
and never married, which almost makes me a leper to some people, even
though I think I'm an amazingly youthful guy (resemble Orel Hershiser,
so a lot of people say). Still, it seems that $$$ goes a LONG way
toward compensating for social/physical/chronological disadvantages...
at least for men. -- Steve M, Atlanta (thanks for the e-mail)

Somehow, I think the idea of sabotaging the image of the kind of guy
the original poster was portraying will appeal to him. ;)

You know what, all bullshit aside, bottom line, love is a very illusive
entity. Personally, right now, I would take it in whatever form I could find
it. In the past thought, I will admit to hooking up with guys, just based
on looks and money. What else is there in the beginning? You gravitate
toward what you are attracted too. You can't tell me that if a Cindy
Crawford type gave you the look, you would turn her down because she was
beautiful... That would be just as discriminatory. With time and
experience I have gained some perspective. When we are so young we have
limited experiences and maybe are only attracted to the physical. As we
broaden our life experience, we also open up to new choices. That's what
dating is all about.

I do agree that women are just as much into looks as men, even though men
are more open about it.

I don't know if using a personals ad is way to prove that this is way women
think since a large number of women won't touch a personals ad because of
the danger factor also about all you can express is your physical qualities
in a short paragraph. Every guy in the personal ads claims to have a good
sense of humor, and knows how to have a good time. You don't see the words
"dull" or "looser" in to many ads.

My experience has been as woman get older. They are less into looks.

however those things are measured or discerned very subjectively..
whichj is why even "good looks" is a varying standard. some women like
brutish rough guys some like the tuxedoed gentlemen. football or wine

just a little, but well within the ethical arena of personal ads.

uh, all of that is standard results or treatment for men using the ads.

but.. the original experiment could be used to discover more regarding
this. Superman shouldl WRITE to women' ads ads. then keep track of his

excellent point. make all the superiormen look as if they are fakes..
they probably usually are.. so the original poster has performed a
"cautionary type service for many women using the personals.

Of course, if this were a psychological experiment, it wouldn't pass any
ethical committee as there would need to be a "de-briefing" of the er,
subjects, to avoid any psychological trauma.

Well I read the raging augments about being good looking or not. I consider
myself to be a bit of alright, however some may disagree, that's there
problem. One needs to feel comfortable with ones self. And once you are, the
honesty in your heart will shine through.
For example, I have a mate who weighs in at just a tad under 200 kilograms.
He has no good body part to him, but he pulls the chicks, reason..... No
Bull Shit... he's honest, lovable, and enjoys life... Allah his weight... he
says his weight bothers him... but hes coll with it... what I am trying to
say is be comfortable with yourself, and except who and what you look like.
If people do this... they wouldn't end up by themselves.....so just be
cool..... and cruise...

Oooooooh for christs sake!!.....kay...welcome to the world of being a
male...being rejected and messed around in the head with all their stupid
mind games that women play is a constant thing!!! Guys get the rough end

who replied have shown themselves to be the most shallow and naive lot

accident and my whole face and body has been terribly disfigured...'even
ugly people find me ugly'....LOL

3) reject them in a subtle way....tell them i'm not interested in further
contact.

4) just confess to them all and be prepared for a backlash

5) discontinue any communication...(eeer that would be the cowards way)

You need to get a life or something. Why would you want to do this to
innocent people? I think you have way too much time on your hands. What is
the point of all of this and why do you feel it is necessary to carry on
such a charade?

This world would be a much better place if everyone worried only about being
nice, caring individuals and not be out to make other people "pay" for their
faults.

Why can't we all just get along??? :)

I know: I think we can actually construct the perfect reply from some of
the things you've said, thusly... "the ad you spent money replying to
was in fact a hoax, designed to reveal how shallow all you girls are,
wanting only "a good looking guy, with a big dick and a bigger bank
balance." And only a stupid person could have not spotted this. But
anyway, enough about you, I'm a really nice guy, would you like to meet
me for coffee sometime?"

That should do it :)

Well, eh-heh, think about yourself as Santa Claus would. Undoubtedly he will

I agree with this guy. After all your personal add said you were"
nice, caring, intelligent, romantic ". So how far off was that? None
of it true? All of it true? So then its the picture that is freaking
you out? See if you connect with any of them on the phone first,
if so take it like a man. Just suck it up, and turn it around. Just be
flat out, and tell them you don't think your the greatest looking guy,
but your really fun. (you are aren't you?) If they don't what have
you lost? Let me tell you, there a very few guys who are Don
Juan. Even the attractive guys can be full of annoying habits.
What did you think was going to happen in this situation? Now
are you really convinced that girls suck? Do you feel better that
you have really proved it to yourself? That's what you wanted
wasn't it? That way you don't have to look at yourself for the
reason your having problems dating. That's right. You. I'm
sorry to sound harsh here, but I have known plenty of guys
who use the same cop out so they can get away with putting
very little effort into dating or themselves. Just being a man who
is confident will get you a long way. Things in life rarely come to
you. You have to make an effort to get the things you want.
I admit I don't know you, but this is what comes across to me.

Crystal
Who's been lurking from time to time. I had to unlurk today because
I just get so tired of guys blaming women for everything that is
wrong in their lives.

Actually, she does not even care about you one way or the other. Your
loss is your loss. She accepts you for what you are and moves on. A
greater fellow is worth a greater effort, obviously, one who lacks
respect is worth no effort or feeling of emotion whatsoever. Anyone
who would deceive another as some sort of personal joke is only worth
the laugh they laugh in solitare.

Hi there all,
I have been following this discussion for the last week or so. I have read
"nice guys finish last". Now that statement got me going. So what my tiny
little brain got out of that message was if your nice you finish last. And
to be successful one needs to be an asshole?

What a loser statement, if I ever heard one before. Talking about the poor
me syndrome coming out. I reckon the only reason one would make a statement
like that would be.. because they can't get a partner, let alone get laid.
So hence the above statement.

I am a nice person, I have nice people in my life, yeh sure some have their
hang ups. and some have their moments. But we are all human.. and we are
allowed to have good and bad days.

To state that one needs to be bad to succeed in life is silly. Be nice to
yourself, love yourself, show respect for yourself. and things fall into
place. But what ever you do. don't ever use the above excuse..

Well yet another soap box address by dantan.. You all have a nice day ya
hear

Re: ASL
what do we get from an ASL? It gives us a box to put people in. If we know
their age, sex and location, we tend to make judgements about who they are.
Just like "nice guys" make judgements about traditionally physically
handsome guys. Just like jilted lovers make judgements about the reasons
they were dumped. Maybe it's hard to face the truth about yourself. Maybe
you're not so nice and not so good looking so you loose on both counts and
that's hard to face. It's not such a dichotomous thing. Anyone can possess
any number of traits. It's how you feel when you are with them and that
doesn't come from them as much as it comes from you. Sorry to run on. The
point is we can only work on ourselves, we can't change other people.

It's part age and part experience. After a certain point you begin to
realize that the best gifts don't always come in the prettiest wrappers.
You also get to know yourself better and along with that you prioritize
differently. I would not make the same dating/mating choices now that I
made ten years ago, but without those experiences I would not have the
perspective I do now.
I think you have to know yourself and your own needs before you can fully
participate in a good relationship.

so very true from my experience... my first experien ce on the net is still my
most memorable because if was in a chat room where asking a/s/l questions was
not the norm... we'd laugh and make up all sorts of odd combinations depending
on our moods... most of the time we related age to our momentary mental or
emotional age... and sex often got "yes" or "no" or "why?" or other answers...
and location was where creativity really flew around... from in your computer to
behind you to right at the second star and straight on through till morning...
when I got serious, I was usually 4/toon/here :)

were dumped. Maybe it's hard to face the truth about >yourself. Maybe you're

to face. It's not such a >dichotomous thing. Anyone can possess any number of
traits. It's >how you feel when you are with them and that doesn't come from
them >as much as it comes from you. Sorry to run on.

this sort of running on has my respect... too many people in this world don't
care enough to really get to know each other... maybe it's just laziness or
fear, but the norm seems to be to seek an easy label or box to identify
others... used to bug me, especially when someone uses their prejudice to assume
they know another and address the other based on their assumptions... or when
the telephone game begins and prejudices are passed around as if they were
facts... but as I've grown I find more amusement than irritation in the
deliberate ignorances of strangers... and I focus my time and energy ourside of
the boxes :)

>The point is we can only work on ourselves, we can't change other >people.

and working on others is an easy way to avoid working on ourselves... a trap
I've fallen into myself in this life... so thanks for the reminder :)

honest love, ric
