No you must go to the console and write : time refresh (maybe without a space i don't remenber) @+ Christian Probst a crit dans le message <6u4rt4$2cs$1@news.worldonline.nl>... > >James Taylor-Craig heeft geschreven in bericht ><6u4cth$m6a$1@reader1.reader.news.ozemail.net>... >> >>Henry wrote in message <36058986.0@ruby.hknet.com>... >>>Can anyone tell me what is the command? >>> >>> >> >>open up the console and type this: >> >>timedemo 1 (this will get you into benchmarking mode) >>map demo1.dm2 (this will tell it to run the demo1 map, it'l go fer a few >>mins and at the end you will get your average FPS, try demo2.dm2 aswell) >> >> >mins!!!? if you have a 286 that is. > >

timedemo1 demo2.dm2 is the *standard* to whcih everyone compares.

Timerefresh is a joke. It's not accurate. In some rooms, you can get 130
FPS, and in others, 15-20. It's not an accurate *benchmark*.

Hi, go to the console : write 'timerefresh' without ' ' for those who have a 3dfx and 3dfx2 write 'gl_ztrick 1' without ' '. This will enable 3dfx Zbuffer. You will earn about 3 to 5 fps. You will earn about 3 to 5 fps. NO NO NO. GL_ZTRICK has NOTHING to do with enabling/disabling the Z-buffer. The Z-buffer is ALWAYS enabled in Quake2. Setting the var GL_ZTRICK to 1 allows the 3Dfx card to do some "trick" (hence the name GL_ZTRICK get it?) with the Z-buffer memory, which requires less processing power of the 3Dfx chipset, so this processing power can be used for rendering the world. That is why you see a small, but noticeable inprovement in performance. Furthermore, if you want to compare Q2 videoperformance, NEVER use the "timerefresh" command. It sucks, is not accurate, and very heavily depends on your position in the map!!!! This command was written by the developers to test some properties of the map, I think it was to check how many so called "brushes" there are at a certain location in the map. It was NOT written to test video performance. To do this accurately, and comparably, use the following set of commands/variables. In the console, type (or create a .cfg file and exec this): s_initsound 0 snd_restart timedemo 1 then type this: demomap <demoname>.dm2 (mostly demo1, demo2, massive1 and crusher are chosen) This will invoke a demo, and it will play at the maximum rate possible on your system. After it is done, the framerate will be displayed. This value depends almost entirely on the combination of CPU and video card, therefore it is the best way to measure your Quake2 performance..... -- Greetz, Hindrik "remove .blabla from my reply-to-address" Deelstra

your all wrong, but the first guy's would work better- in the console, type timedemo <demoname> without the arrows and that's it. it'll blaze through the demo at top speed and give you fps after. btw, if you use timerefresh, it's one word, and you gotta do it right after starting a game without moving, and it really doesn't give you a good answer anyways. Thats Quake1 dude. Quake2 works with the method I posted at the bottom.
