Power? well perhaps a good many of you do - and those who have managed
to convince you all as a nation not to have things which most other civilized
nations have have done a good job of it. Power - yes the power to be
in poverty and get kicked by Rush and the boys, power to lie in the gutter
shot to death by some anomic powerless peon....
But the real power is with the majority wouldn't you say?
However, the majority of mankind vote in the U.N. yet the US ignores it
for the most part - why?

HO HA HE
:-)
FIRST - Most people in the US are of European descent. America neatly cut
itself off from the flow of historical thought. It is better to have them
think that the world started in 1776 and nothing happened before that, everyone
else had it all wrong. Oh and by the way we have to speak English~
Well - Edison was from Canada for one! da light bulb! - da record player
come on ... name one in the US who was born there!!!! come on come on :-)

Exactly. Because even if an American patriot is inbred and brainwashed (all three of them) he still has something to be proud of. What does a Canadian have to be proud of? "Hey, eh, we produced the great Wayne Gretzky...but he went to the US...but we have 'Kids in the Hall'...but they've all moved to the States..." >Canadian patriotism is at least more sincere, >we actually know what we are patriotic about, whereas you yanks are just >patriotic to whatever the government tells you. Yeah. I've seen Canadian patriotism. It usually begins with the sentence "We aren't like those Americans because we are XYZ", where XYZ are lies and half-truths. We, on the otherhand, are patriotic because we have a proud history. We took control of our own country, and bent it into the greatest nation the world has ever seen. You're just leating yours float down the Saint-Laurence to oblivion and disillusion.... -- sig under destruction...

Are you an idiot? You stupid americans ('stupid americans' referring
to all americans who think we live in igloos and agree with this
garbage) think you've pulled us stupid nearderthals out of our igloos

Your both a couple of wankers.I am a British Canadian (I hate the

Denis Arcand and Atom Egoyan are among the greatest directors IMHO Atom Egoyan is the greatest director EVER and people will be watching his films hundreds of years in the future and marvelling at them the same way people marvel at the works of Beethoven, Michaelangelo, and Shakespeare today. Hollywood is a pulp factory of Lowest common denomenator shit. Yes there are some good Directors in the U.S.A. but their works get made in SPITE of the dominant culture not because of it. Stanley Kubrik had to run away to England in order to be allowed to exercise the full extent of his genius. Brazil, one of the greatest american movie ever made was almost strangled by its producer who wanted to dumb it down so stupid semiliterate culturally moronified Americans would like it. Terry Gilliam allways has problems anytime he wants to do anything daring. Robert Altmann is virtually a parahia in Hollywood. Independent Cinema is encouraged daring wierd and Avant guard in Canada and generously subsidized. Independent cinema in the USA is neutered by threats from the Christian right and other primitivists. Great writers: HA! Mordeccai Richler, Robertson Davies, Margeret Lawrence, Margeret Atwood come to mind, if you take into account that Canada has allways had a population 1/10 that of the USA we rate quite well. ART: The Group of 7 kicked the butt of all their contemporary American artists. Science: HA! HA! HA! HA! John Polanyi, Gerhardt Herzberg, Bert Brockhouse, all won the Nobel Prize thats 3 in the last 25 years for a country with 30- million inhabitants! If you have any friends with Diabetes they owe their life to two Canadians. >>Hey, when you >>vacantly stare at Rush Limbaugh on tv in that characteristically >>American way, does your jaw hang open, and drool run down your cheek? >>Just wondering. > >No, but the drool does run down the cheek of Jean Chretien. Which is really Canada's goal. To be a patriotic Canadian, one says "I think we do ok from our pool of 30 odd million." That's really it. > Canadians have bravely donned the Blue helmet and performed their peacekeeping > duty for the U.N. and layed down their lives for it under the U.N. colours > (many many in Cyprus) > across the world with none of this "Never serve under foreign command" > bullshit. > We posess a true internationalist spirit of loyalty to the U.N. and pay our > dues promptly, and give generous foreign aid. Yep. You pay your dues. > A history of peace law and order, The Mounties partolling the west so > it was never wild, a peaceful confederation without bloodshed, no genocide > of native americans after breaking their treaties. And this pretty much sums up Canada. Canada is the upper middle class gentleman from across the street. His hair is always short and clean, his whiskers neatly trimmed. He suits are made from sturdy cloth, his pocket watch is wound. He's married to a decent girl, they have two little boys, and every year at Christmas time they get some wooden toys. The gentleman belongs to several clubs, he has no enemies; no one ever felt uneasy talking to this chap. He works from nine to five at a decent-paying white collar job, takes the public transit home in time to bless the meal. Then one night his house burned down and torched his moderately-worn flesh. The papers read, "Family of four dies in house fire," and a lot of people turned and stared. Then they went about their business, there was a well-attended funeral service, a plaque was commissioned at the club, and everyone was somber at the office for about three weeks, maybe four.
