All, I just downloaded and installed: JDK1.2.2-001 (ie Java 2 SDK) for Windows 98. According to the docs there should be a 'javac' included. There isn't!!! *very stressed* There's 'java'... but no compiler! What on EARTH have I missed this time? Thanks and Regards Douglas doug@pobox.com

Did you look in the directory "jdk1.2.2/bin"? I have downloaded the Linux version and I believe the directory structure is the same as the Windows implementation. Ken, Yup. I looked there. I only have a LIB and BIN directory. I even did a 'dir *.exe /s' and still came up with nothing. *sighs* File downloaded was: jdk1_2_2-001-win.exe (20,449,862 bytes) Regards Douglas. Look under jdk1.2.2\bin on Windows. All the executables including javac, javap, java etc are right there. If you do not find them there I think you need to re-install. If you are not able to call javac from your console, it might mean that your path may not be set correctly. Try to compile by going to the jdk1.2.2\bin directly. If you can do this, this confirms that your Path is not correclty set. Douglas Garstang <doug@pobox.com> wrote in message news:CP_J4.1907$1D.15164@news-server.bigpond.net.au... > Ken, > > Yup. The install creates a c:\jdk1.2.2\bin directory by default. I have installed this multiple times and it always puts it there. I just downloaded an installed (after cleaning out a previous install) the same file. The javac and other executables are located in C:\jdk1.2.2\bin as they should be. I've never seen this fail. Perhaps you did something wrong? Chuck McCorvey Douglas Garstang wrote: > > Ken, > > Yup. I looked there. I only have a LIB and BIN directory.
